Winter Festival
Saturday, January 30, 2016
12 pm to 3 pm
(Snow date Sunday, January 31)
HPSP Interpretive Center

Please join us for our annual celebration of snow and ice at High Point State Park. Bundle up and bring the whole family for a day of winter fun. Activities will include winter themed crafts, guided hike, story corner, sing along, hot cocoa and cookies by the fire, snowshoeing and ice-fishing demonstrations (conditions permitting). The event is FREE, but a suggested donation of $5 or more per family is appreciated.

Snow Date for the Winter Festival is Sunday, January 31 from 12 pm to 3 pm. We will post an update on this page and on Facebook if there is a need to postpone to the snow date. Happy Winter!

Autumn is the season of bountiful harvests. Come watch the Friends of High Point State Park prepare a seasonal feast on the open hearth. 



Enjoy sample tastings of soups, meats, sides, and desserts that have all been cooked fireside. Seasonal activities for children will be offered.

Autumn is in the Air

ATTENTION: FALL FOLIAGE BICYCLE RIDE CANCELED

Due to the rain and wind forecasted for this weekend, the Friends of High Point State Park Fall Foliage Bicycle Ride that was scheduled for Saturday, October 3, has been canceled. 

No rain date is scheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience. Visitors are welcome to come up to the park and enjoy the fall foliage on their own. Park maps and suggested routes may be obtained by visiting the HPSP Office. Thank you!

Come enjoy the beauty of fall at High Point State Park!


Bring your own bicycle for a lovely ride to view the autumn foliage. We will meet at the Winter Parking Lot and set off from there onto Park Ridge Road. Along the way, we will make a few short stops at points of interest and enjoy a picnic lunch.

The ride is suitable for ages 14 and older. Helmets are required for all bicycle riders. Please bring your own bicycle, helmet, bag lunch, and water. 

No rain date is scheduled, but visitors are welcome to explore on their own. Park maps and suggested routes for bicycling are available in the park office.

The event is free, but a suggested donation of $5 per participant is appreciated.

2015 Bait & Boat Festival

Join the Friends of High Point State Park on the beach at 
Lake Marcia as we say goodbye to summer with a fun-filled day of fishing and boating.

2014 Bait & Boat Festival

This special event is the one day of the year that boats are allowed on Lake Marcia. Participants may borrow one of the Friends’ kayaks or canoes for a short paddle or bring their own non-motorized boat and spend the day exploring.

Afternoon activities include boat races, fishing & sandcastle contests, pond study, and crafts. An early evening campfire on the beach with s’mores will conclude the festivities.

All persons fishing, age sixteen or older, must have and display a valid NJ State fishing license. Please bring your own fishing equipment. All boaters must wear a PFD while on the lake. Participants who plan to bring their own non-motorized boat, remember your PFDs, and stop by the beach for instructions before putting your boat in the water.

The Friends of High Point State Park proudly announce their 2015 Summer Concert Series!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF IT RAINS:
Please be aware that the maximum capacity for the Interpretive Center is 146 people. Unfortunately, if we reach maximum capacity we will not be able to accommodate all concertgoers who wish to attend and may be required to turn some folks away. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a safe and enjoyable concert experience. 

As a reminder, please bring your own chairs to the concert as we have very limited seating available at the Interpretive Center

Please park in the beach parking lot or gravel parking lot near the Interpretive Center and walk to the concert venue. Drop offs near the building will be allowed. Parking at the Interpretive Center is very limited and reserved for the handicap and those with a true need to park near the building due to limitations. Please do not block driveways or roadways with your vehicles. 

A friendly reminder, alcohol is not allowed in the park and there are no concessions at the Interpretive Center. Please bring your own non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

The Friends of High Point State Park invite you to join them this summer for three magical evenings of music in the park. Bring your family and friends up the mountain for a day of fun, then stay for a fabulous concert on the beach at Lake Marcia. Spread a blanket out on the grass and enjoy a picnic supper. Dance barefooted in the sand. Summer nights were made for music under the setting sun!

How much is admission?
Admission to the summer concert series at High Point State Park is FREE, but donations of $5 or more per adult are appreciated. Children are admitted free.
Please stop by the Friends of HPSP table to make your donation and purchase souvenirs.

Weekend Update!

The 2nd Annual Lake Clean Up
will take place Saturday, May 16!
The weekend forecast calls for the possibility for rain both days, so we are still planning on Saturday. We will meet at the park office at 1:15-1:30 pm and head out from there. If it is raining hard at 1:30 pm we may decide to cancel. We will not be using our rain date. Visitors are welcome to help keep High Point beautiful on their own - every little bit makes a difference! Please call 973-702-0488 if you would like more information or have questions about the event.

Help keep High Point State Park beautiful! Join us as we clean up trash along the shores and in the waters of Lake Marcia, Steenykill, and Sawmill. Participants should bring their own waterproof footwear, hip-waiters, and work gloves if they have them. Please be aware that participants may get wet and dirty, so keep that in mind and wear appropriate clothing and footwear. There will be no swimming. Individuals, families with older children, and groups are welcome to participate in the lake clean up event. 

3rd Annual Teddy Bear Picnic
Rain or Shine - Saturday, May 16!
Please bring your own picnic lunch and teddy bears!
Families with children ages 2-10, and their favorite teddy bears, are invited to High Point State Park for a spring picnic where they will explore the natural history of the North American Black Bear. Activities will include a bear discovery station, crafts, family story corner, and more. High Point State Park's resident BIG teddy bear will be sitting for portraits - bring your camera! The Teddy Bear Picnic will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm in the HPSP Interpretive Center. Registration was required, but walk-ins are welcome!

Spring has sprung on Kittatinny Mountain

Oh, what a wonderful time of year...the warm breezes, singing birds, and sunshine! Please join us on the mountain this May as we take a deep breath, do a bit of spring cleaning, and have a bit of fun with family and friends.


Yoga on the Mountain
Come enjoy the view while relaxing your mind and body. All levels of experience are welcome. Classes will take place once a month May through October. The first class of the 2015 season will take place Friday, May 15, at 6:30 pm in the High Point State Park

ZUMBA

Hello Friends,

Come and join the Friends of High Point State Park as we celebrate Earth Day with our first Zumba on the Mountain class!

Individuals ages twelve years old and up, at all fitness levels, are welcome to participate. All you need is a bottle of water and a towel to join the fitness party! 

Sarah Banci of Fierce Fitness will lead the class. Zumba on the Mountain is free, but a donation of $5 per participant is appreciated.

Spring on the Mountain

Goodbye Winter…Hello Spring!


Winter is a magical time at High Point State Park, but we are happy see spring paint the mountain green once again. The Friends of High Point State Park have many exciting events planned for this upcoming season. Please consider joining us in celebrating the season of renewal.

Spring Friends of High Point State Park Meeting
Please join us for our spring meeting on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 1 pm in the High Point State Park Interpretive Center. The Friends of HPSP meets only three times a year – this is your opportunity to learn how to become more involved in our activities. Members and prospective volunteers are always welcome. All Friends of High Point State Park meetings are open to anyone interested in attending. Please email friendshpsp@gmail.com for more information on volunteering or attending a meeting.

Earth Hour Observation (Lights out on Monument)
On the evening of March 28, the Friends of High Point State Park are again participating in Earth Hour. The lights on the monument will be turned off for the ENTIRE NIGHT in honor of Earth Hour. 

Earth Hour 2015 will take place on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm (local time). This Earth Hour, we challenge you to go beyond the hour. After you flip the switch and the lights back on, think about what else you can do to make a difference. Together our actions add up. Zumba on the Mountain – NEW FOR 2015!
Join the Friends of High Point State Park for a Zumba class on the mountain! Come celebrate Earth Day with our first Zumba on the Mountain class Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the High Point State Park Interpretive Center.
