Oh, What a Year it Was!

The Friends of High Point State Park had a wonderful year full of programs, some new and some old favorites.  We hope you were able to join us on the mountain, but if you missed the fun take a peek at our photo galleries.  The Friends of High Point State Park programs and special events would not be possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers.  Thank you!

We have been hard at work planning events for 2011.  Our first special event of the New Year is the Winter Festival, a celebration of snow and ice at High Point State Park, which will take place on Saturday, January 29.  Visit our “Save the Date” page for more details on the Winter Festival and the many other family friendly programs presented by the Friends of High Point State Park.

Winter is a magical time on Kittatinny Mountain.  Snowflakes drift away from sleepy clouds and the lake ice grows thick and still, as the wind dances through the trees, skirting sunshine.  However, you don’t have to crawl under a blanket and hibernate until spring.  Bundle up, step outside and come see the magic for yourself.  High Point State Park is open year-round.

“With over 50 miles of trails, High Point State Park offers visitors a variety of trail options throughout the year.  Designated multiple-use trails are available for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and snowmobiling.  Trails vary in length from one half-mile to 18 miles and take visitors through unique and diverse landscapes including an Atlantic white cedar swamp, mountain ridge tops with 360-degree views, dense forests, fields and wetlands.” High Point State Park official website

High Point State Park is also home to the High Point Cross Country Ski Center.  Beginner and advanced skiers will find miles of groomed ski trails available for a day of fun.  There are also snowshoe trails that are certain to lift you out of the winter blues and past the highest point in NJ.  Rentals, sales and repairs are available.  The High Point XC Ski Center also offers special events such as Winter Trails Day and Ski Fest.  Ski and snowshoe passes are required in certain areas of the park, please check with the High Point State Park main office and the HP XC Ski Center for details.

Happy Snow Days!
